The
L ball - 12 August 2006
The 23rd annual lesbian ball held this year at The Langham Hotel
was themed ‘the L ball’ with many women dressed in something
beginning with “L”. An array of costumes were in abundance
including luscious lesbians, liquorice allsorts, little lesbian
lucifers, letters, Lily Munster to mention just a few. Also
present were some of our favourite characters from ‘the L word’
with Bette & a very pregnant Tina among them.
The dance floor filled from the time the first of three DJ’s
played the first song & stayed packed until the very last
song. A huge thank you to DJ Shorty, DJ Cheeky & DJ Danielle
for keeping the music flowing. An added feature to this years
ball was Mr Kewl from Melbourne & Lorry – two hearing impaired
performers – entertaining with a mime act which included the
L word theme, Wild Boy & I Will Survive. The MC for the evening
was Liberace, aka Julez.
Lucky ticket number prizes, generously donated by our fabulous
sponsors, included a Potiki Adventures voucher for two to their
Urban Maori Experience, a nights accommodation at Waihoihoi Lodge
in Waipu, a bed & leisurely breakfast for two at Watershed
Cottage on the Coromandel, two nights gold rate accommodation
with Greenspace’s eco-friendly accommodation, an aLBa $200 dinner
voucher to the Musket Room, D’Vice gift packs and a print by
Miriam Saphira.
An assortment of spot prizes kindly donated by The Holiday Shoppe
Ponsonby (previously Harveys World Travel) & the Lesbian
Health Group were handed out throughout the course of the evening.
The support of our financial sponsors helped to make this years
ball a huge success and we thank GABA, Foot Sense Podiatry, Flirt,
Mayne Automative, Tamaki Makaurau Lesbian Newsletter & aLBa.
A thank you must also go out to Fran of Abacus Bookkeeping Services
for presenting the bottle of wine to their chosen favourite fancy
dressed couple – the liquorice allsorts.

the design & printing of the tickets, flyers & posters

“The L ball” backdrop was brilliantly put together by Shorty
Beer and Jess Brewster – thank you to you both.
