Auckland Lesbian Ball
Celebrating Style Through The Ages
11 August 2007
Chic, sexy, outrageous, funky, stylish – how else to describe the wonderful costumes and the women wearing them at the Lesbian Ball held at the Langham Hotel on 11 August. The theme of Celebrating Style Through the Ages clearly captured the imagination as women arrived in huge crinolines, sleek flapper dresses, flowing Egyptian and Greek gowns, dapper suits, chic and short sixties outfits and urban punk gear. With the usual great service from the Langham staff and DJ Rochelle keeping the music pumping and everyone on the dance floor the scene was set for a fantastic night’s entertainment.
Thanks to the generosity of our prize sponsors, women attending this year had the chance to win some great gifts. Lucky ticket prize winners took away gift packs from D.Vice, a luxury night for two at Waihoihoi
Lodge in Waipu and an original print donated by lesbian artist Miriam
Saphira. Spot prizes of wine and chocolates were also given out.
As a fundraiser for LESO the success of the Ball means that we are able to continue
funding our phone line, coming out groups, website and advertising. Our financial
sponsors make an important contribution to LESO’s ability to continue offering
our service so we would like to acknowledge the support of aLBa and Crashbrokers.
Financial support is not always easy for small businesses and organisations so
LESO encourages you to give them your support in return.
As always we are eternally grateful to Carol and her staff
at the Women’s
Bookshop who undertake the mammoth task of
being our main ticket outlet and to the TMLN team
who always manage to find space in the newsletter when
we’re late sending in copy and generously include our
promotional material.
And last of all we want to say a huge thank-you to all of you who came to the Ball. Your attendance is a way of doing something for the community by helping LESO to provide information and support for lesbians who use our services and for those women who are beginning the process of coming out. Thanks to everyone for a great night and we hope you’ll join us next year for a special celebration of the 25th year of the Lesbian Ball.
